The People’s Print celebrates the new era of DIY textile design. Founding directors, Melanie Bowles and Dr Emma Neuberg are passionate about textile design and love sharing their methods with businesses, institutions, schools and individuals. Melanie Bowles is principle author of Digital Textile Design and Print Make Wear – Creative Projects for Digital Textile Design, Senior Lecturer in Printed Textiles at Chelsea College of Art and Design (UAL, London). Emma Neuberg is a doctor of Printed Textiles and director of the Slow Textiles Group.
Together, they create pioneering systems to engage the consumer/wearer in the design process through workshops, bespoke tutorials, competitions, lectures, exhibitions and publications. They have worked with great partners such as the V&A, British Crafts Council, Somerset House, FESPA Digital, Computer Arts, VF Corporation, Contrado Imaging and many others.
We are proud to be based at Makerversity, Somerset House – Factory on the Thames.
The People’s Print is all about promoting digital textile printing as a means of production to empower you to create beautiful, bespoke textiles that are original and unique. The big picture is to counter the negative effects of mass consumerism, fast fashion and globalized fashion monocultures by investing in people’s creativity and giving them the vision, tools and inspiration to create beautiful, bespoke products for themselves that they will love and wear!
